Myrtle Beach Golf Course Review
Arcadian Shores Golf Club
Myrtle Beach, SC

Aberdeen Country Club For the more traditional golfers, Arcadian Shores, one of the strand's oldest golf courses, still stands its ground among some of the more renowned modern courses. Two of the holes on the Arcadian Shores Course were voted into the Dream 18, a compilation of the best 18 holes on the beach. Designed by Rees Jones, this classic course is very fair for all golfers and doesn't cater to a specific type of player, making it enjoyable for all golfing levels.

The greens are tidewater grass and the fairways are Bermuda grass, giving it a coastal feel that most of the newer courses lack. Natural lakes are woven in and out of the Bermuda grass fairways and are accompanied by 61-70 bunkers, each uniquely placed to give you and your fellow golfers a unique golfing experience. Because it is set in the thick woods, there is a fairly decent amount of shading so you won't be so uncomfortable in the hot sun.

The fairways are narrow, tree-lined, and mostly flat with the exception of holes 13 and 14. Hole 13, which was voted into the Dream 18, features 408 yards which require an accurate tee shot to land on the crest of a hill. The hole then goes downhill over a lake to a very sharply sloped green. Because of the narrow fairways, you may want to try and hit 3- or 4-wood or even long iron some tees.

The par 3's of the course are all very interesting and well-developed. Hole number 2, which was also voted into the Dream 18 measures between 114-201 yards and your tee shot must land on a green to the right of a lake. This hole also features a large bunker. Hole 2 is usually the most challenging hole for most golfers. Another favorite par 3 hole is hole 17, which is 169 yards over another lake to a green that has a deep slope on both sides.
