Myrtle Beach Golf Course Review
Myrtlewood Golf Club- Pine Hills Course
Myrtle Beach, SC

Myrtlewood Golf Club- Pine Hills As the fourth course constructed in the Myrtle Beach area, Pine Hills has earned its respected seniority among the fairly newer courses in the area and fails to disappoint golfers who have played the more reputable courses in the area. Withstanding the test of time, Pine Hills has always been a must-play on golfers visiting the Grand Strand. This course has been chosen to host several golfing events over the course of time and has been selected as Golf Digest's 1997 "Top Ten Courses" in Myrtle Beach. With a superior blend of Bermuda fairways and Pencross Bentgrass greens, Pine Hills can either reward golfers or challenge them to a hard day's work.

Although its sister course Palmetto seems to attract the most attention, Pine Hills is the more challenging and intriguing of the two. Unlike the Palmetto course, Pine Hills doesn't provide you with a huge window. You have to get your ball into the small targets provided by architect George Cobb.

Pine Hills will challenge the sureness of your irons. You better know the precise track of your ball upon swing or you're going to have trouble. Mentioned before, Pine Hills doesn't feature the wide generous landing areas found on its sister course as well as many other Grand Strand courses. There is little to no room for mistakes here so be on your best game!

The course will definitely challenge your fundamentals. Many players recommend that you come out and respect the course because if you come out and try to dominate, the course will eat you up whole. Number 2 looks relatively simple but when you step up to the tee you find yourself in a hole mess of trouble. There is a left to right slope which in turn brings a huge bunker into play. Don't get too excited because as soon as you avoid that initial trap, two more bunkers still stand in your way. The 400 yard par-4 12th hole appears to be relatively readable, but dangerously features a high slope with a large bunker awaiting your poorly shot ball.

Hole 13 is commonly known as "Bunker City," featuring many large sand craters all the way down the par 5. It resembles a sort of bunker obstacle course and makes your second and third shots absolutely crucial. After the trials of hole 13, you come upon a sort of trick hole. Hole 14 has no bunkers in sight, and just when you thought you could breathe easy, pine trees come into view and shadow over your golfing dreams.

Pine Hills will force you to use every club in your bag. It also forces you to completely think through every single shot you take. If you enjoy strategical challenges you will thoroughly enjoy all that Pine Hills has to offer.
