Myrtle Beach Golf Course Review
Carolina National
Bolivia, NC

Carolina National Carolina National Golf Club is conveniently located between Myrtle Beach and Wilmington and has been recognized by Golf Digest as one of the best courses on the eastern seaboard. The course was carved out of low-country marshlands and is set along the Lockwood Folly River. Designed by Fred Couples, this 27-hole signature golf facility offers golfers an amazing and diverse golfing experience that can only be encountered at Carolina National.

The course was designed to accommodate all skill levels, not just favor the high handicappers. It is divided into three separate nines: the Egret, the Heron, and the Ibis. All of the fairways are mostly wide and they all make full use of the beautiful accompanying 30 acres of wetlands. Carolina National sports an ultra modern design and utilizes subtle shaping and bunkering. In fact, the bunkers are very deep and the greens are drastically undulating and average close to 6000 square feet. The greens are a mixture of 194 and Crenshaw Bentgrass while the fairways are strictly Bermuda grass to protect them from the intense Carolina heat.

The Heron 9 is mostly an inland 9 with the exception of Hole 5, which is a par 3 beside the Lockwood Folly River. You must carry some wetlands on your drive on Hole 4 but for the most part water doesn't come into play if you hit the ball relatively straight. Out of all 27 holes, the back nine are most likely the more difficult and challenging.
