Glen Dornoch Golf Links

Clyde Johnston created a masterpiece with Glen Dornoch. This vast 270 acre site is canvassed by beautiful oaks, pines, and magnolias. Unlike most coastal golf courses, this site has natural 35-foot elevation changes and is set along the most beautiful stretch of the Intracoastal Waterway. In respect to the land, Johnston built one hole at a time and each flows with the natural terrain.

Glen Dornoch is a must play on the north end of the Grand Strand and was voted one of the "Top 10 Golf Courses in Myrtle Beach" in 2008 as well as one of the "Top 30 Courses of South Carolina" by the South Carolina Golf Rating Panel. William Nack of Sports Illustrated also named Glen Dornoch as one of his three favorite places to play from North Carolina to Florida.

With a course rating of 73.1 and a slope rating of 145, the greens are always manicured and beautiful despite the harsh heat the area experiences. The course is consistently rated as one of the most beautiful and challenging courses in the Grand Strand area.

Each hole provides you with a test without overwhelming you. Johnston throws different angles at you and virtually never repeats itself. There are plenty of pond and marsh carries as well as doglegs to provide you with a challenge.

The closing trio may be the most intense ending on the strand. The 16th hole requires strategic moves as your encountered by a hill on the right and a fairway narrowing to a trickle on the left. The par-3 17th hole forces you to try and avoid the waterway on your left as well as a huge steep bunker-topped hill to the right while you hit over a tall oak and more marsh. The 18th features a split fairway to the right for those who don't think they can carry the intimidating marsh to the left. Drive will be crucial here and a good one will put you in excellent position for a birdie.

Stay focused though, because the magnificent waterway views might distract you- whether it's the casino boats or shrimpers heading out to sea.
