Indian Wells Golf Club
Murrells Inlet, SC
Although this course may be slightly over 20 years old, the recent new ownership brought fantastic renovations and reinstated the legendary course to its finest. Styled after traditional U.S. Open courses, Indian Wells Golf Club has a very impressive appearance and layout, giving you a beautiful view, as well as the feeling of a champion. Suitable for all players, the daring will be rewarded for their skill and the average will feel like playmakers. Named Golf Course of the Year in 2004 and awarded the "Hospitality and Operational Excellence Award," Indian Wells has regained every bit of reputation and is very capable of competing with the best of the best at the beach.
One of the most fantastic aspects to come out of the renovation was the newly implemented Bermuda greens that replaced all former 18. Bunkers, the cart paths, and even the clubhouse were all affected by the renovations.
The course features four par 5's and four par 3's and has a course rating of 71.9 with a slope rating of 125. This shot maker's course will require you to use practically every club in your bag. Developers throw plenty of water and other hazards in your way to help create a very challenging golfing experience.
The goal of developers was to create a golfing experience that would be more than memorable. They wanted to create a thirst that could only be quenched by playing Indian Wells over and over again. Hole 9, a 410 yard par-4 was named to the "Grand Strand's Dream 18." The signature hole, hole 6, is a 484 yard par-5. The hole is reachable in two from the forward tees, but the best play is to lay up with the second and then make a short third shot over the lake to the green.
The finishing hole is legendary all in itself. A large pine tree sits practically in the center of the fairway and has caused a headache for most golfers. The hole is a 384 par 4 and is also one of the Grand Strand's Dream 18. It is considered one of the best and toughest holes in Myrtle Beach.
With an unusual blend of rolling terrain, sand, water, and trees, fourteen of the eighteen holes carry some type of water obstacle. Don't think you can escape the hazards by moving up tee boxes as almost all water traps come into play on the ladies tees as well. In fact, many believe that the course's biggest challenge is to not get wet.
The course has four sets of tees to offer players of all skill level something to enjoy. Low scores are achievable, just make sure to bring your game face.
