Pearl East
Sunset Beach, NC
Sunset Beach is home to two very prestigious golf courses, both of which are part of the Pearl Golf Club. The Pearl Golf Courses provide players with a scenic relaxing place to play, as well as five star worthy golf. Pearl Golf Club is split into two courses: East and West. Pearl East features a more traditional golf layout as well as a challenging day of golf.
The course is carved through an unspoiled natural forest and finishes just along the majestic Calabash River. The East course was remodeled and reopened in March of 2000. During renovations, the fairway grass was replaced with Crenshaw sod. This course is also set upon a 900 acre natural marsh preserve. The lakes and streams highlight the natural beauty that Pearl East emits. The fast rolling greens and fairways are pleasant and you’ll most likely see a wide range of wildlife while teeing off.
The East course has a slope rating of 134 and measures around 6,800 yards. One of the most memorable holes, the closer, is the longest hole. It measures 572 yards and features a slight bend to the left. There is a waste area to the right and you will have to carry the water to reach the slightly elevated green. Hole 6, on the other hand, is a 404-yard par-4. It features a water carry right off the tee. The hole is a dogleg right and features a creek running across the fairway. The rough on the course is very thick and will probably swallow up a few of your balls for the day is finished.
Accuracy is required on hole 4 for a successful score. This difficult par 4 dogleg left has greens which slope back to front. Ideally, shooting a right to left tee shot which is aimed at the left side of the fairway bunker would be the most profitable shot. Hole 15 is a straight par 4. The only obstacle you’ll face here is a large fairway bunker on your left. The greens are slightly elevated and there is a very narrow opening. Hole 9 is one of the most fantastically laid out holes on the Grand Strand. This zig-zag par 5 will require a parallel drive with the fairway bunker. This gives you an angle at the green for the approach shot.
