Myrtle Beach Golf Course Review
Pine Lakes Country Club
Myrtle Beach, SC

Pawleys Plantation Pine Lakes is one of the most fascinating golf courses in the area. A favorite of Grand Strand golfers for years, there is a deeply rooted history and tradition that accompanies Pine Lakes. Originally built on natural dunes, the course is located less than half a mile from the ocean. There are beautiful freshwater lakes and the fairways majestically roll.

The course was renovated extensively but the spirit of the 1920’s can still be felt in the air of the course. The back nine still features the original design of architect Robert White, the first president of the PGA of America. The front nine, on the other hand, was renovated to create an elegant golfing experience. Seven of the 18 holes are still intact, but are in a different order.

The greens are new SeaDwarf paspalum and are smooth and perfect. In renovation, the older trees were removed and replaced with baby ones, which opened up the course. The holes vary, some are wide open with trouble areas while others are more obvious.

Number 9 is a fantastic hole. There is a watery dogleg left over and around water. It is so short that many golfers have to fight the urge to drive it. Number 14 is called a "valley hole," with water at the bottom as well as a steep climb back up the green. There are massive walled bunkers in front and on the sides.

The courses classy air and challenging holes make it a must-play on your golfing list. The course is elegant and upscale, and the 62-room antebellum clubhouse is fascinating.
