River Oaks Golf Plantation
Myrtle Beach, SC
Play a one-of-a-kind course that provides an ideal experience for golfers of every level. 27 magnificently designed holes are divided into three courses- the Fox, the Otter, and the Bear. These courses are named after the native animals which were found when the course was developed. It doesn’t matter which course you choose, its guaranteed that you’ll have a fantastic and challenging day of golf down at River Oaks!
Designed by Gene Hamm and Tom Jackson, the course is carved out along the Atlantic Intercoastal Waterway and features undulating greens and mounded fairways. This former nature preserve still glows with natural beauty. The course is located a few minutes away from downtown Myrtle Beach, but don’t let that worry you! The course is quiet and secluded and you’ll never hear the hustle and bustle of busy Myrtle Beach.
The greens were recently renovated and now feature Champion Ultradwarf greens. A wide variety of trees were also planted along the fairways to create an even more visually appealing course layout.
The Bear course features nine holes of fantastic challenge. Hole 1 is a par 4 that has a large water hazard running down the right side. You’ll be in great shape if you stay along the left side and create a fade off the tee. Hole 9 is a par 5 and is nicknamed “The Last Mile for a reason. If you aim your second shot toward the mounds on the left side of the green then you’ve made your first successful shot. Make sure to avoid the large tree on the right and you’ll spare yourself a major headache.
The Fox course varies from the Bear course and brings nine more unique holes to the table. The Par 4 Hole 4 fairway disappears to the left. There is a large bunker to the right of the tee. That’s not all, however, because a sea of bunkers awaits your ball on the other end of the fairway. Hole 7 is a par 5 that causes many competitors to break a sweat. Right off the tee, make sure to aim straight toward the bunker on your right. You also have a water hazard as well as many other bunkers to avoid.
The Otter course is the more visually appealing of the three nines. Hole 1 is a straight par 5 that measures 524 yards. Water runs along the entire left side and bunkers habituate on the right side all down the fairway. Beware! Hole 6 is a par 4 and has more obstacles for you to dodge. Mounds, bunkers, and trees surround you so play each shot to the best of your ability and make sure to strategize. You’ll also have an audience as you are close to the condos on site.
Either way, whichever nine you choose to play guarantees you a fun and challenging day on a beautiful pristine course in sunny Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
