New Sponsor, New Name, Same Intense Tournament

The "World's Largest Single-Site Amateur Golf Tournament" is getting a new name and a new sponsor. The tournament, which will begin on August 30 this year, will now be sponsored by the Sports Illustrated Golf Group and will be called the "Golf.com World Amateur Handicap Championship."

The tournament has brought around 4,000 golfers to the area for the past 26 years. Why Myrtle Beach? With around 102 public golf courses, no other destination could host the largest single-site tournament.

The Sports Illustrated Golf Group, which consists of Golf Magazine, Sports Illustrated Golf Plus, and Golf.com, will sponsor the event for two years according to their contract, with the possibility of a third. The SI Golf Group is the number one media company in golf, which brings renders excitement for their new sponsorship.

Sports Illustrated, which began at Pine Lakes Country Club back in 1954, will be coming back to its birthplace with the new sponsorship.

The tournament has a $550 entry fee which includes: four rounds of net stroke tournament play on a different course each day, coffee, bagels, and doughnuts each day, gift bag, and more.
